How to make Vanilla Sugar

Making vanilla sugar using vanilla extract is a simple and flavorful way to enhance your baking recipes. Here's a straightforward method to do it:



Ingredients

  • 2 cups of granulated sugar

  • 1 to 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract (adjust according to your taste preference)



Instructions


  1. Mix the Sugar and Vanilla Extract: In a large bowl, thoroughly mix the granulated sugar with the vanilla extract. Use a fork or a whisk to ensure that the vanilla extract is evenly distributed throughout the sugar. The sugar will appear slightly damp as the vanilla extract is absorbed.

  2. Dry the Mixture: Spread the vanilla-infused sugar in a thin layer on a baking sheet. Allow it to air dry. This can take a few hours to a day, depending on the humidity and temperature. The goal is to let the vanilla extract evaporate, leaving the sugar dry but infused with vanilla flavor.

  3. Break Up Clumps: After the sugar has dried, you may notice some clumps. Break these up with a fork or put the sugar in a food processor and pulse briefly.

  4. Store Properly: Transfer the vanilla sugar to an airtight container. Store it in a cool, dry place. It can be used in the same way as regular sugar, and it will add a subtle vanilla flavor to your recipes.

  5. Optional - Intensify Flavor: For a stronger vanilla flavor, you can add a vanilla bean pod to the container of vanilla sugar. This will enhance the vanilla essence over time.
